Samba
Perhaps the one biggest thing that everyone can staple to the image of Brazil in their minds. The samba is the fast paced dance music of the Carnival of Rio de Janeiro where it has its roots dug deep. This built-for-a-party music is centred around the upbeat 2/4 pattern with guitars and percussive instruments hammering it forward. Ever since after the second world war, though, trumpets, trombones, clarinets and flutes have snuck in to create a new sound.
Originating from Bahia slaves, no wonder this dancing style is so catchy. Lose yourself, immerse yourself in it. You won’t notice any of your troubles. We don’t frown on it like our snobby grandparents. Samba is now the biggest party music of the year.
The Jo Jo’s are sneaking in a new sound yet again with their mix with electronic music. Long live this great hope.
Bossa Nova
What better to calm the samba rhythms than add the aesthetics of the bossa nova music. With all the style of the Brazilian middle class, it moves with you, entrancing you in a new and exciting samba and bossa nova style. Whip our your clave’s, it’s going to be a style you won’t soon forget.
Put on some airs and graces. You can almost see yourself in that beach house in Rio de Janeiro. Bossa Nova has been charming and encaptulating since the 50s and will once again delight listeners with the electronic mix from the Jo Jo’s.
