Oh how interested we are in this!! It seems that we are spreading the music! Here is a great post from another blog.
Hey guys,
So I found this song on soundcloud. ad I think its a fantastic representation of Brazilian Samba. I am really into this at the moment and I think that this band can really make it. Its a blend of Brazilian music, with rock and electronic music. Its very cool and takes samba to a whole other level. It really plays on the rhythms used in Brazilian music. I know I am gushing about this but I find I am really obsessed with it right now. These guys are really fantastic musicians I look forward to hearing his work in the future.
Here is the link to their site. It’s great it tells you all about the history of the musics they are using.

This is awful. I don’t know who came up with this rubbish but were you aiming for samba or bossa nova, either way they butchered it. What ever happened to authentic brazilian music? With the guitar accompanying the singer. Not this computer generated garbage.
ReplyDeleteI love it its fantastic. It shows just how far Brazilian popular music has come.
ReplyDeleteI love how it is blended with a rock riff and electronic instruments. So very cool. A new breakthrough for Brazilian music on a global level?
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me? This is the worst representation of Brazilian music I have ever heard. I don’t know what you’re smoking but the rhythms in this are nothing like a Samba
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like some kid with garage band has gotten his hands on some Basic samba or Bossa Nova and gone ‘Hey! I can write this stuff too’. Its completely commodified Brazilian music. This piece has made a mockery and novelty out of Brazilian music.
I Agree with Doc. This song completely commodifies Brazilian music.
ReplyDeletethink you guys aren’t given the artist enough credit for this. They have taken an element of Brazilian music and modified it and created something new and cool. Its a great example of Appropriation. Combining Latin American music with western music popular music has been done before yes. However I think that its helping expand Brazilian based music instead of keeping it the same. You are judging this artist by your own standards and ideas of what Brazilian music should be when they were just trying to create something new.
ReplyDeleteJazz progressions? They claim to be playing jazz chords but I don’t hear it. Also you the artist is assuming it understands the complex nature of the music. When it is merely judging it from their own perspectives in popular music. Ever heard of this concept called othering? Well these guys are doing it by playing up how intriguing they find Brazilian music.
